Fedor Amosov
Fedor Ivanovich Amosov was born in Moscow into a family of musicians. He began playing the cello at the age of six and soon became a student at one of the most renowned music schools in Russia—the Central Music School at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory—under the tutelage of L. B. Yevgrafov.
Amosov regularly performs at major international festivals. He has participated in festivals such as the Green Noise Festival in Surgut, the Tribute to the Great Artist—In Memory of Oleg Kagan in Moscow, VivaCello in Moscow, the Rachlin Seasons in Kazan, and the Evenings in Monrepos in Vyborg, as well as in various cities and countries including Colmar, France; Aspen, USA; Cleveland, USA; Gabala, Azerbaijan; Telavi, Georgia; Kazan, Russia; Ulyanovsk, Russia; and Novosibirsk, Russia.
Amosov is a soloist of the Moscow Philharmonic’s «Stars of the 21st Century» program and a participant in several programs at the Saint Petersburg House of Music, including Young Performers of Russia, Embassy of Mastery, Generation Next, and Music of the Stars.
Since 2020, Amosov has been teaching, and in 2022 and 2023, he held the position of Head of the Cello, Double Bass, Harp, and String Quartet Department at the Central Music School—AII. He regularly participates in the committees and organizational boards of All-Russian and International competitions. Since 2021, he has been a jury member of the All-Russian competition «Constellation.»
Amosov became the first Head of the Cello, Double Bass, Harp, and String Quartet Department in the history of the Central Music School—AII.
He has been awarded first prizes at various competitions, including the Concertino Prague in 2006; the 5th Youth Tchaikovsky Competition; the All-Russian Competition «Magic Bow» in 2003; the International Competition named after Knushevitsky in 2008; the International Competition in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 2008; the Minnesota Orchestra Competition in 2008; the Concerto Competition at Michigan State University; and twice won the Concerto Competition at the Cleveland Institute of Music. At the Aima Hogg Concerto Competition, Amosov received the Audience Choice award and the «Orchestra’s Pick» award.
As a participant in the 15th Tchaikovsky Competition, Amosov was recognized not only as the best performer of the second round program but also as the best interpreter of Joseph Haydn’s concerto.
Amosov has published arrangements of dozens of pieces and sonatas. These arrangements include works by composers such as Grieg, Breval, Dvořák, Prokofiev, Poldini, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Semyonov, Ibert, etc. Additionally, aside from adaptations published by Wiltshire Music Company and Ovation Press, Amosov’s original works have also been published. His arrangements cover pieces for cello, violin, viola, flute, piano, duets, trios, quartets, cello ensembles, and orchestras.
Amosov’s albums have been released on Naxos with six sonatas by Boccherini, on Centaur Records with six sonatas by Breval (world premiere), and music by Glazunov and Sokolov (world premiere) on Bel Air Music. In March 2014, his album «Reveries» was released on Centaur Records, featuring encore pieces by Russian, Soviet, and European composers. In 2015, another world premiere featuring six sonatas for cello and bass by Jean-Balthazar Trickler was released. In 2023, an album of chamber sonatas by A. Rosenblatt, F. Schubert, and C. Debussy was released under the CMSH RECORDS label at the Central Music School—AII.
In 2023, Fedor Ivanovich obtained another qualification, earning a diploma with honors from the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) in the field of management in culture, education, and science.
As a sound engineer, Amosov has released albums with recording companies such as Naxos, Centaur Records, and Divine Records.
